ClO2 is used to make the world a cleaner, healthier place.

Chlorine dioxide is an unrivalled broad spectrum biocide that has been used in the food and drinking water industries for over seventy years. It does not form toxic byproducts and leaves no residual toxicity. Download Overview | Industry Applications

What is ClO2?

Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a powerful yet selective oxidizing agent. It is a greenish yellow gas at room temperature that is very soluble in water. Unlike chlorine, chlorine dioxide is not a chlorinating agent and pure chlorine dioxide does not form THMs, and it doesn't chlorinate organics. It also doesn't react with water to form free chlorine or react with ammonia to form chloramine. Additionally, ClO2 is soluble in water and has efficacy across a broad pH range.

Sabre Chlorine Dioxide ("SABRECHLOR 25")

In the United States, ClO2 must be made at the point of use by a chlorine dioxide generator. Sabre manufactures its own ClO2 generators which are protected by issued patents. In Sabre's ClO2 generation application, precursor chemicals are pre-reacted, under vacuum, in the absence of dilution water. Sabre produces pure ClO2 in a safe and proven process, a fact which differentiates it from all other producers of ClO2.

ClO2 at-a-Glance

ClO2 is:

  • A "true gas" like oxygen or nitrogen
  • A biocide (eliminates microorganisms)
  • An oxidant (increases reactivity of other substances with oxygen)
